So my ancestry is British/European colonialism in a nutshell
23& Me has got some new genetic reports, and while you have to take them with several tons of salt (I neither understand nor remember all of them, but this sort of genetic info is in its infancy and liable to vast swathes of errors), it certainly paints a picture of recent world history.
Sorry about the size; I am too lazy (and extremely frustrated at a Real Life thing right now) to bother with resizing right now. I'll see if I can resize via HTML in DW. (edit: Yes I can! width="80%" FTW!)

Left side father, right side mother.

The only real surprise I had was that the South Asian bit was on my dad's side, and not my mom's! My dad's side is Cajun (French and German, dating back to the first of my surname, who came over to Louisiana from Bavaria in the early part of the 18th century), and my mom's is mostly Scottish and English (and earlier, Scandinavian, possibly from Vikings :D). I'd have assumed I had some sort of connection to South Asia via British colonialism but, if the results are anywhere near accurate, maybe not?
edit edit: I just expanded the categories on that last one and holy shit I'm more Viking on Dad's side than Mom's! XD I'm pretty much British all the way on Mom's side. Mom's got this condition in her hand called Duputryen's Contracture (provided I spelled that right, because I'm not going to bother to look it up) which has been associated with people of Viking descent, so was assuming it was associated with the Viking presence in Britain. Well, it might still be. Who knows?
