I've gotten involved in a few arguments by telling people I prefer the original FMA anime to Brotherhood. I appear to be in the minority. For me, it took too long for Brotherhood to hook me, and in the first 20 or so episodes it seemed that the important stuff happened when the Elric brothers weren't there and the Elrics didn't do much for themselves. I'm also more fond of the original's explanation behind the homunculi.
