Assassin's Creed Revelations

Toby's playing it right now and man, these guards are stupid. " Where'd Bob go? He was here just a second ago and dropped his mace next to this haystack! Must have gone to the bathroom. I'll just return to patrol."

Also, Ezio seems to have a predilection for searching the crotch when he's searching a body.

Hee! I can guess exactly what point in the game the haystack observation was from. Did he run back and forth trying to bait guards close enough too, then diving into the haystack to hide?

*has been playing it alllllll day*

Yes! And they were too stupid to follow once he dove out of sight so he had to sit there until they were close, and then dive.

Toby's just learning the zip lines as I type this.

Ah, I see that Assassin's Creed has started recruiting from the Thief games' guard corps. Altair and Ezio must've killed off enough that they had to bring them out of retirement. (By way of reference, guards in the Thief games were so stupid that they attributed most of what you did to "rats." Either that, or rats were some of the most gifted rodents in the world, being able to open and close doors, extinguish and light torches, sap guards and drag their bodies away, and disable steam-powered security automata.)

Pretty much! We've been speculating that people in this world must contract security out to the lowest bidder.

Well, arguably, the skillset required in Renaissance security could be summed up as "Good with a sword, prone to use violence, and not bright enough to question your employer's moral choices." We're not talking a lot of diversity or intelligence in general, unless you get someone like Micheletto (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1582457/) and his cheese slicer.

Hopefully "the strangely-garbed guy just dove into a haystack; can't see him anymore, might as well go back to my patrol" isn't in their vocabulary.

(If you want them to go poke the haystack with their swords so you can assassinate from it, you have to wait until they're pretty close before diving in, otherwise their suspicion level drops and they wander off.)
