Dear House Hunter International people

You move to Delft because you say you want a European upbringing for your children. I get that. But your house hunting wishlist contains four bedrooms, lots of outdoor space, and a large kitchen. And you complain because the places you're shown don't have a bathtub, just a shower, the bedrooms are too small, and there are too many people nearby. I thought you wanted a European experience...?

On that show, as I have seen glimpses of it at Mom's, the people involved never really want to live in the places they're supposed to be moving to. They never seem to have a good grip on what the places actually are---I think you hit on the most typical episode possible!

I have more sympathy for the people whose jobs move them to another country, because it's not entirely of their own volition. But for the people who move specifically because they want to, or they want their children to, experience other cultures? NONE. NONE WHATSOEVER.

Pppft! The 'too many people nearby' thing cracks my shit up, especially as someone who grew up in the Netherlands. Do people not realize that the adorable row houses aren't just for show and that, in fact, human beings live there? Right next to each other?

I KNOW! As far as I can tell from the episode, the "European upbringing" they wanted for their kids was mostly different food and hearing other languages. You could have achieved the same thing at home in an American McMansion by buying an international cookbook and renting a few foreign films! (No point in going to an area of the country settled by people from other countries -- there would be people there.)

HAAHA Yessssss! I often holler at my screen when watching that show for exactly that reason!
