Product DescriptionETA:
Wonderful Adventures of Mrs Seacole in Many Lands is the autobiography of Mary Seacole, a Jamaican nurse who, like her contemporary Florence Nightingale, rose to fame for her bravery during the Crimean War. Unlike Nightingale, however, Seacole was confronted by racism at every turn of her career. Refused a post in Crimea because she was biracial, Seacole traveled to the front on her own, where she set up her own clinic for wounded British soldiers. Told with energy, warmth, and humor, her remarkable life story offer significant insights into the history of nursing and race politics.
About the Author
Mary Jane Seacole (1805-1881) was a Jamaican nurse and a heroine of the Crimean War. When she was refused a post as a nurse during the Crimean War, Seacole went on her own initiative and in 1856 established a medical clinic at her own expense in order to provide ""a mess-table and comfortable quarters for sick and convalescent officers."" Like Florence Nightingale, she is remembered a champion for nurses.
