Help!

I need suggestions for hairstyles that an anime girl with long yellow hair would wear that would absolutely scream GENKI, and yet would not scream Sailor Moon. Like, unfortunately, this one does:




Very genki/happy/bouncy. Also, very Sailor Moon.



So: suggestions, please! Links to pictures that are similar to what you're talking about would be good also, as I've found that plain verbal descriptions don't always work. :)

If I told you why, I'd have to kill you. Well, not really, but it's something being worked on with others for something else that isn't yet ready for prime time. And won't be as exciting as this sounds when it *is* ready for prime time. :) But I'll let you know.

-a ponytail of several braids, each ending with a bow or some other cute thing
-three or four messy buns, tied off with ribbons that have slipped out of their bows (so excited to start her day that she rushes through getting ready/etc)
-hair clipped back with two super-cute barrettes
-heidi-style wraparound braid, either all of her hair up or just partial. Possibly with ribbons and flowers (plucked on her way to school?)

One braid coming high off one side of the head? Like in the approximate position of this picture of Kyon's sister (http://en.anime-wiki.org/wiki/File:Kyons_Sister.jpg). And if it's just one braid, it shouldn't be too Usagi-like, especially if it's short or medium-length, although I won't swear it wouldn't be an eighties aerobics instructor.

I agree with this. Sailor Moon's pony-tails are far back on her head-- far forward would look different.

Yeah, and really even just making the ponytails shorter/thicker than Usagi's and leaving off the odango would be enough for me to not instantly associate the look with Sailor Moon; change the height/position of the ponytails and make the hair wavy or curly instead of straight, and I really wouldn't associate the look with her at all.
