Quizfail

Remember the "I Write Like" quiz meme of a few days ago? They're using social engineering to publicize their vanity press. There was also racefail happening with the quiz author - I can't find the link right now, and can't remember it closely enough to quote here, but I'm sure one or more of my f-list will drop a link here shortly. :)

Anyway, for both of those reasons, I deleted the quiz results to give them a little less internet exposure. I don't normally mind advertising for companies in the form of clever quizzes, but I'd rather not drive traffic to vanity publishers that pretend to be real publishers.

(And I kinda sorta want to work out a way to create a similar quiz and to front-load it with all sorts of genders, colors, orientations, religions, etc of authors.)

I thought the original deal was fair go - they put up a quiz, allow everybody to link to it, and by the way, we're also producing software. That's fine, I had a look at it (doesn't meet my needs) and this could - apart from the inherent White Male Fail - have been the end.

Monetizing the success by advertising things that are detrimental to writers is something I cannot and will not support.

.....and the fail just keeps on failing.

I spent time with that quiz trying to figure out what on earth dictated its results and eventually threw up my hands at its nonsensicality. Too bad that it's turned out to be faily as well.

I would love to see a better-rounded version of it. :]
