Dear [livejournal.com profile] yuletart Gift-Giver!

My annual way-too-long ramblings for [livejournal.com profile] yuletart, mostly cut-and-pasted from last year.

These are all suggestions, not requirements. I'd rather have a pic that feels good to you than something you tried to depict that you don't feel right about.

I am all about a single portrait of a character, if that's the direction you want to go. If you're more of a pairings-type fanartist, I don't particularly subscribe to the pairing thing, but I'm not against many either - I'll accept whatever the writer/artist does, if they convince me within the boundaries of the work they're doing. I've made notes of those I *don't* want due to personal squicks, mostly underage or mentor/student relationships.

I do like relationships shown through other-than-conventional means, though, so if you want to depict a pairing, consider possibly showing their relationship through something other than standard romantic gestures (like how in shonen series characters express their feelings through fighting or bickering XD), and I like deep friendships and family-type relationships, if you want to try something in that direction.

If you want more inspiration, my previous [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic-likes posts, including a list of my Cool Bits [TM] are here and here, and my previous [livejournal.com profile] yuletart posts are here and here.

Set List:

Aqua/Aria - I like all the characters. :) I love the dreamy, slow-moving, pastoral feel of the series.

Blade of the Immortal - Favorite characters: Manji, Magatsu, Rin, Anotsu. I love the brother/sister interaction between Manji and Rin. I'd have a hard time seeing Manji and Rin as anything other than brother/sister.

Death Note - Mello. I love me some well-done crazy! L is also the weird little sugar-addict boyfriend of my heart, but I think I have stronger loyalty to Mello for the CRAZY. :D Although a cranky Near is cute, too. :)

Mononoke - The Medicine Seller. The art style, and the Japanese supernatural elements make this. If you can work in a legend/myth/yokai, awesome! The Obakemono Project might serve as inspiration for you.

Mushishi - Favorite characters: Ginko, Tanyuu. The feel of the series as a whole is what I love here. Pairing doesn't really seem to work for me here unless it's subtle, like the manga and anime kept it. Ginko examining a mushi might be nice.

Natsume Yuujinchou - Much like Mononoke and Mushishi, I love the youkai, and like Mushishi and Aqua/Aria the slow-moving nostalgic pastoral feel.

Okami - Ammy, Waka. The art for the game is gorgeous. Ammy in wolf shape or even your idea of her human form would be nice. I like Waka too, although I tend to want to slap him - there's jsut something about a trickster.

xxxHolic - Favorite characters: Yuuko, the pipe-fox, Doumeki, Watanuki when he's not spazzing. The Art Nouveau aesthetic in the art, and the Japanese supernatural elements make this for me.

Wildcards:

Bleach - Renji, Rukia, Kenpachi, Yachiru, Ikkaku, Yumichika, Komamura, Grimmjow, Unohana, Gin. There are so many characters I love here. I like the father.daughter dynamic between Kenpachi and Yachiru, the fierce loyalty to Kenpachi that Ikkau has and the fierce loyalty to Ikkaku that Yumichika has, Komamura's quiet strength, Unohana's quiet strength also, that weird bizarre thing between Gin and Matsumoto, Gin's well-done CRAZY, and the way that Grimmjow just reminds you of your best friend's WoW-addict little brother (I can't possibly take him seriously as an enemy!), and the way Renji is not-so-secretly pining after Rukia, who is just taking her time to work out what the hell's going on with her life. MAJOR squick is depicting Kenpachi/Yachiru as romantic, even if she's older. The parental thing there is WAY TOO STRONG. (Although come to think of it, a pic of Yachiru all grown up might be interesting.)

Onmyouji - Seimei. Anything having to do with Heian-era Japan? I'm there. Japanese myth and legends, especially. The Obakemono Project link is already here twice. :D But anything featuring the clothing and architecture and/or romantic sensibility of the Heian era? GORGEOUS! [livejournal.com profile] onmyoujium has lots of links to the manga, the movie, and the history, and there are various links on [livejournal.com profile] reading_genji (and a post I made there of screenshots from the movie) that might inspire you.

Project Blue Rose, Spindrift - Any. I'm the artist for these (as you probably already know if you decide to do these) and ANY sort of fanart would thrill me no end. Knock yourself out! AU! Pairing! No pairing! Your original character in the world! Have fun! If you haven't read these and think you might want to, contact [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, identify yourself as my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart gift-giver, and ask for PDF copies of one or both. She'll send them to you and won't tell me. Go to projectbluerose.com for more info about the two books.
