Well, ok, so it's not a new picture, but it's a colored version of one of the guys you've been asking for.

I did the Boys in the Band some time ago, with the intention of coloring them, and decided to give stage lighting one more try. It worked once I stopped actually attempting stage lighting and instead added a glow effect at the end.

I'm thinking that I'll be printing these out and making them bookmarks for A-Kon. I can price 'em low and sell a bunch. XD

Ooh, I like the lighted effect on this, it can be hard to do since its not normal, natural lighting that we see everyday. :D

Where is A-Kon, btw? I hope you make a killing selling stuff there. ;P

Thanks! XD A-Kon's in Dallas, weekend after next, and I'm hoping I do well. I did pretty good last year, and the goal is to at the very least match that. But who knows?

*dies* Your icon made me choke on my Snickers bar. I hope you're happy.

Ooh, pretty! I like the neon glow thing that's going one. Very nice.

Kukuku, mission accomplished. ;P

you are too cool.

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Very nice. How much do you sell bookmarks for?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking $2 or $3 each - I need to sit down and work out what the cost of the paper is. I haven't made 'em before, and I'm planning on getting some nice yarn/thread/whatever and putting tassels on 'em. :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, yes. Yes I am. Er. Did I just say that out loud?

I have established that the library I work at has only A Coalition of Lions and not The Winter Prince, so I'm going to have to interlibrary loan it. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I was poking around in Painter trying to figure out how I got an effect I did on another picture a few months ago, when I stumbled upon the Glow tool in the FX collection, which produced that. As long as I don't forget its existence, I should be good. XD

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds reasonable-- there's a person around here who sells handmade bookmarks for about $3 each. I think she laminates hers but nice-quality card stock woud be nice too.

I'm tempted to bribe you to read it.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I did check the public library catalog, but the branch nearest me doesn't have it. The library system owns one copy - way over away from me - and they have deals with two other library systems nearby that own it, although still not within a reasonable driving distance from me. I love working in a library - I can be so lazy. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Office Depot had a good sale on semigloss photo paper, so I'll be using that - it's heavy enough to work. I also got this paper cutter used for scrapbooking, but it cuts photo paper very nicely without costing $50 like a big, formal paper cutter does. I lack the gene that enables me to use scissors and cut straight.

I'm actually going back-and-forth on teht assel thing - it'd be nice, but OTOH, if people don't actually *want* to use them as bookmarks, but treat them as prints, having a hole punched in the top would be annoying. Plus it'll be a lot more work for me. I think the "it's less work if I don't bother" side is winning. XD

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think a tassel works as well with the design either-- Sesshomaru's more suited to one. XD

And then it will be easier to ship for mail order. You know. If you wanted to do mail order.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'll make bookmarks of as many images as I can - if they look good in a 2"x6" slice or whatever I decide the final size is. I've got a bunch of 4x6 paper - 2x6 (or 1.8x6 to take care of mis-cuts) seems like it'll work well since my lovely large-format printer can print borderless images. Although I may put a border in Just In Case.

There's starting to be enough people on my friendlist saying "I'd buy that!" that I think after A-Kon I'll have to post prices and make prints for people. :) Before A-Kon, however, I have to concentrate on making prints for the con.

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, absolutely that way I can save money.

But seriously, prints are sort of impractical for my house because I already have too much crap on the walls. So bookmarks would be great. And make great gifts. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have hardly any crap on my walls, but that's because I like a few enormous pieces and not assemblages of small things, so I'm waiting and slowly gathering big pieces. And I don't really want fanart on my walls we're ignoring the fact that two of my enormous pieces are copies of panels from Blade of the Immortal. So I rarely buy fanart. I commissioned a Sanzo from [livejournal.com profile] pzb, for which I may make an exception in the no-fanart-on-walls rule once I get it matted, but it'll probably end up living in my cube at the office anyway. :)

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I should put some things up in my office, but I'm supposed to be moving so it seems pointless. XD

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, it's a five dollar paperback. Go to Barnes & Noble.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
My search on the Borders store locator/search store inventory site said the paperback was both out of print and not in stock at any of the Borders near me, hence me assuming that it was, indeed, out of print. :)

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not out of print-- I see it all the time. Try going to the YA section and looking in their paperbacks, or calling the stores. If that doesn't work, I'll buy you one.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-05-26 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll go check when I next hit the bookstores, which will be the instant I see that my local Borders has The Hallowed Hunt, which will hopefully be after my next paycheck hits my account, otherwise I'm using the credit card.

but I've got a 15% off coupon burning a hole in my pocket.
