This evening's adventures...

...or why I haven't done any coloring on [livejournal.com profile] chomiji's picture tonight.

I'd just settled into Photoshop, trying to work out how to do the background of the picture, when the power went out. And didn't come back on. And didn't come back on. And didn't come back on. After half an hour, I decided that I needed to go out to dinner, since I wasn't going to be able to cook anything tonight, and then had the OMG what if I can't get out of the garage?! moment.

Discovered that if I'm inside the garage and the power is out, I can open it - pull on a handle hanging from the track, then just lift the door. I am not sure that I can open it from the *outside* if I haven't closed it manually, which means that I really really need to get into the habit of leaving the top deadbolt on the front door unlocked when I'm not at home, because there's no way to open the door from the outside if that deadbolt is engaged and I can't get into the door in the garage.

Went to Borders, where I witnessed two girls who I later decided were round about college-aged squeeing over the Jaida Jones/Danielle Bennett book Havemercy that I texted about. They were all "Look! It's out!" and one of them picked it up and hugged it, and the other stroked the cover a bit, and then they opened it to the back and said "Look! She's so pretty!" and then checked the price, noted they could get it for cheaper on Amazon, put it back on the shelf, and wandered off. I drifted over to see what excited such squeeage, and then texted LJ because otherwise I'd never remember.

After I bought books, I decided I had a MAJOR PROTEIN FAILURE and wanted a big ol' hunk of dead cow. And couldn't find a steak places in the area, and got weak enough from hunger to stop at Bennigan's, where I ended up with a small hunk o'dead cow that had been glazed with a Guinness sauce and was really quite good. So it all ended up well.

Drove home, discovered the power was back on and that by the flashing of my stove's clock, it had been off for an hour and a half. Not doing art tonight, obviously. I think I shall retire to my bedchamber, don my bedclothes, and peruse my novel, which involves a man and his might-as-well-be-sentient tank.

how does one diagnose a MAJOR PROTEIN FAILURE?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
One is merely driving along, thinking vaguely of what to have for dinner, and then one drives by someplace that's got a grill going and all of a sudden one's brain is CONSUMED WITH THOUGHTS OF HUNKS OF MEAT.

I didn't stop at the place I smelled it, because it was the cafe at the Central Market, which doesn't tend towards steak, which is what I became obsessed with. XD I haven't really eaten much protein for a week or two, so it was probably high time I did so. :D

I'll just think wistful thoughts ... really, you've been working very hard on it, and I can always go look at my latest in-progress and get happy, at least temporarily!

It was so frustrating, because i'd been raring to go start coloring on it all day long! I'd just started trying to work out the background - nothing fancy, just subtle splotches reminiscent of Mucha's work - and POW out go the lights. I hadn't saved it since I started coloring, but that was OK because I'd just about decided to delete it and restart. XD

Although it just now occurs to me that my UPS failed to work. I shall have to investigate.

Heh. When that happens to me I just assume I'm being anemic.

Steaks really are much tastier than iron pills.

Next time you're there, make sure you don't get their fish and chips. Upset stomach within an hour of consumption for me. Always.

Their grilled seafood platter (shrimp, crab cakes, and salmon, with remoulade sauce) is really good, though.

Meat is about the only foodstuff I get cravings for that I think is related to nutrition, because it really only happens when I haven't had enough protein. XD Now if only my body would start craving vegetables, I'd be all set!

I think the next time I go I'm going to try the Guinness-glazed burger, since the steak was so good. XD

hmm, so that means i've never experienced a MAJOR PROTEIN FAILURE yet. XD; good to know.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as I said to someone else, I think this is my only kind of nutrition-related cravings. :D I just haven't been eating much protein lately, because that tends to involve cooking instead of foraging in the fridge and throwing together stuff for lunch or dinner. XD

haha, understandable. XD i did lots of foraging when i was at school. strangely enough, though, i didn't get nutrition-related cravings. i just got... random cravings. XD; go me?
