Existential question # 45234324

It's 2:00 in the morning. So why the heck are there birds singing outside my window?

Ah, you live in the same place I live, don't you? *grins*

Your pain, I feel. There's a freakin' FLOCK of songbirds apparently living in the tree in the front yard that start singing their heads off at about 3AM every night and don't stop until the sun rises. OH MY GOD THEY ARE DUMB I HOPE CATS EAT THEM.

I don't like birds. I'm not sure why, but they scare the living hell out of me. Well, not all birds do. Scavanging birds, like crows, scare me to no end. Other birds just make me tense. If there was a bunch of birds singing outside my window, I'd have to leave the room. To my knowledge, I've never had a traumatic event involving birds happen to me, so I don't know why I'm frightened by them. Probably the same reason I'm frightened by visible arthritis in the hands. I guess I'm just weird...

[Excuse the ramblings. I've been virtually awake for 48 hours straight and I'm starting to lose any distinct and clear train of thought.]

Because it is spring and they are..ah...

Well, most flock birds make noises at dusk/night *patpat* My parrots used to squawk into the wee hours of the morn.

Because in the grand scheme of things, for some strange reason, you're supposed to be awake. The birds know this and are trying to help.

Early bird gets laid.

No, I'm sure that the lizard brain deep at the lowest levels of your brain looks at the birds and recognizes that they used to be dinosaurs and now every time you see a finch, your inner tiny mammal is cowering in fear at the velociraptor beneath the feathers. XD

Now, the arthritis thing: that's just weird. ;)

At my mom's place out in the country, I'm used to the tree frogs singing their heads off all night long - and man, do they get LOUD - but the birds stay quietly asleep until sunrise, when the cacophony begins.

They must be migrating through, because they havne't done it here before.

At least they're not starlings - when those suckers come through, they never shut up all night long.

You've probably nailed it. So to speak.

I defeated them! I took Benadryl and crashed *hard*!

Only birds outside my window are usually hummingbirds. I used to have a cat, and most of them don't come by anymore.

Silly me... I thought you might have used your "Shadow Imitation" technique.

They totally did that near my dorm when I lived there, and it always kept me awake and made me feel horrible for staying up so late.

Birds are singing earlier and earlier here. Then again, when I stayed up till 4:30 am the other day, the sun was rising. I'm glad that dusk doesn't set in at 4:00 like it did in February, but I don't like it being light until way past 9.

Some birds are just crazy, though. Once I had some that started up at midnight, back in the States.

Maybe they're night owls.
