The Awesometastic Manga of Awesomeness!

rachelmanija has received and reported on the awesometastic manga of awesomeness that I mailed her!

She says "It is the geekiest and most specialized and most awesome thing ever. It is a manga about ..." Go read her report. I'll wait. (especially because I'm not going to summarize it, as she's done that nicely.)



So, you know when I commented "Do you really think I'd tell you what it is?" in the previous poll about the manga? I did. Bento and trainspotting are both on the list of options, and I was wondering if anyone would get them. :D

Anyway, I came across the ekiben otaku manga in this post on a blog about bento, and since I was ordering the Okami artbook from yesasia.com, I went ahead and ordered this - and got two copies on a whim, because I knew rachelmanija would love it, especially after we ate ekiben across Japan, and with her tendency to photograph food. XD

What she doesn't mention in her review, but is mentioned in the post I discovered it, is that the chubby ekiben enthusiast owns a bento store and was given this trip as a ten-year anniversary present from what has got to be the most patient, supportive wife in history. :D

Anyway: lovingly rendered drawings of ekiben, lovingly rendered drawings of trains and train routes, and lovingly rendered drawings of Japanese landscape. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT??*

At any rate, I promise scans in the near future!

Checked. Don't know about the bento, but Tetsuko no Tabi is apparently the true story of a mangaka who is so desperate for something to write a manga about that she joins a train-otaku on his quest to visit all five thousand train stations in Japan.

Which is kind of unnervingly close.
