The Christmas wishlist meme...
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Er, I'm not sure I can come up with 10 things without plundering my Amazon wishlist, because I;m the sort of person who tends to buy what I want when I want it, if I can afford it, and then I ask my mom for things I can't afford off the bat for Christmas. XD
So, that being said ...
1)
2) Postcards or holiday cards or birthday cards (mine is Dec 29!) or any-sort-of-occasion-for-no-reason cards written as if they're from fictional characters from one of my fandoms. That always gives me the giggles. It's fairly obvious what fandoms I like from my LJ posts and LJ interest lists, I think, and while I have certain favorite characters, any character is fun. :D
3 & 4) Fanart and fanfic. And I don't give a damn what quality level it is, because anything that is written or drawn for me is totally fucking awesome and will make me squee mightily, so none of that "But I'm not good enough!" crap, mmkay? If you feel like you need ideas, you can go to my yuletide and yuletart tags, and I'll quote part of what I wrote for my
Things I especially like about Bleach - the Renji/Rukia dynamic I mentioned before, the twisted relationship Gin and Rangiku have, the father-daughter thing between Kenpachi and Yachiru, the deep and abiding friendships between a number of the characters (what Komamura *thought* he had with Tousen, Madarame and Yumichika, Hitsugaya and Momo, etc.). Yeah, as you can tell, it's usually not normal pairings that interest me about a series. XD Quite often I like things that explore relationships other than romantic, because there's just so much emphasis on romance in fic out there that it gets dull. That being said, if you want to write or draw romance, romance expressed in unconventional ways is great - unspoken, fighting by each other's side or getting each other's backs, expressing caring through non-romantic actions and words. Humor is totally awesome if you're good at it, as is plot, but if it's not your thing or the story is too short to allow for it, don't worry about it.
5) Samples of scents and soaps and bath stuff and so on from BPAL, Lush, Villainess, and whatever other smelly-stuff vendors are out there.
6) Good wishes, and for you to be happy and healthy. :) Really. I'm not much of a gift-giver except to really close friends and family (and my family stopped doing big gift exchanges years ago), so exchanging stuff isn't really a priority in the relationships I have. I don't expect stuff, and when I give stuff it's not with the expectation of getting something in return, but for the pleasure in giving it.
7) ETA: Hah! Thought of one more! Black teas (especially Golden Monkey) from Adagio Teas. I don't like green tea, ruibos tea, jasmine tea, herbal tea, or flavored teas, just plain ol' black tea. Don't think I've tried white tea, though. Adagio's a cool company, and the sample packs, which make about 10 cups, are inexpensive. (Or, if you order for yourself, put my email address in to receive a $5 gift certificate when they offer you the chance to send them to people!)
I'm going to post my name & address under filter in a moment, and if you can't see it and for some reason want to send me something non-electronic, you can email me at telophase14 (at) gmail (dot) com and ask. :D
ETA: And if you've got a wishlist up, let me know. Maybe I've got something on hand that you want that I want to get rid of before I move, or maybe I know someone who does. :D
