Yes - as I understand it, there's a whole class of youkai that derive from household objects (shoes, lanterns, mats etc.) that have reached their 100th birthday. As they'll be a bit worn out by then, they may well be thrown out, but this is a bad idea as can resent it. I have some kitchen equipment of about that age, especially the bowl I use for Christmas puddings, and I make a point of being very polite to them!
