Update on the car situation

Turns out the way you get a car with no wheels on a tow truck is to find and install two wheels. Naturally, Saturns have wonky specialized wheels. Even more naturally, none of the dealerships in DFW have any of the sort that go on my 2005 Saturn Ion 3, and thus they have to get them from Tennessee and they'll be here Monday.

My insurance pays for a rental car, luckily. So this afternoon [livejournal.com profile] bitpig is going to come pick me up and drive me there.* Then on Monday I go get the wheels, call my insurance agent back, and she'll arrange the tow. Which then has to go to one of their direct repair program shops, so it'll get towed to this place in Arlington to check to see if any damage has been done to car other than the tires removed.

GAH. At least with the rental car I can go to work on Saturday, when I was scheduled to go, so I can take Monday off in exchange and not take *another* day off my little remaining vacation hours.

ANd, man, once I get a rental car I am going to drive to a BOOKSTORE for a little retail therapy.

ETA: And so far every single person I've talked to on the phone has shared my WTF?! at WHO THE HELL STEALS WHEELS OFF A SATURN?? Mom points out it was obviously a custom job, for someone who wanted Saturn wheels. What the hell? (When I was in college, I had an $8 plastic hubcap stolen from my CRX. So people only steal WEIRD CHEAP things off me.)

* Enterprise will come pick you up, but I'd arranged the ride by the time I found that out and frankly, I desperately need to whine to a friend in person right now so I am thus obliging [livejournal.com profile] bitpig to come pick me up anyway. SO THERE!

So bizarre. Yes, you deserve some retail therapy!

Well, if Saturn has specialized wheels, that's exactly why they lifted them.

They could have at least left a 'we r n ur parkin lot stealin ur weelz' note :( I mean, how rude.

I'm glad your insurance is coming through on this. In the end, you have more than a minor bit of annoyance and a good story to tell!

Yeah, but who thinks a Saturn is a big enough status symbol to buy all their parts on the black market? And what teeny profit are the thieves making to be worth stealing them?

Arg, oh well.

Yes, indeed. I shall take my Borders coupons and plunder manga and other shelves.

yeah, i was thinking about a tow truck, but then i realized that whenever i see them, the two rear wheels of the car being towed are always rolling along on the road behind the tow truck. :/ so yeah, figures that you'll need to put two tires on it. and it sucks that your wheels are hard to find. :/

hopefully things will get settled quickly!

That's just... well, everyone else has said it: unspeakably bizarre. Not that it's particularly bizarre to have random SOBs stealing parts off cars, I admit, but to go out to the parking lot on an ordinary work morning and find... that state of affairs. O_o

I wonder if the thieves leaving their jack behind implies an amateur job... yeah, probably does. Not that amateur thieves make your stuff any less stolen. :P

They can probably just turn around and sell them to some cheap-o garage (or replace their own tires). I'm impressed by their ability to do it so quietly in the dead of night.

hard

The wheels can be hard to find - ergo, they took yours.

Pathetic is when they steal wheels off a Tempo - happened to me right after I bought a pair of new tires. Coincidence, huh?

Good luck, glad you could get a rental so quick.

Will you be able to get some jacks or even just blocks of wood to put your wheel-less car on until it gets moved? Or is that rather moot by this point as to having weight on the drive shafts and what not, since it's been like that a few hours now?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell if I know.

Gaw, I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope the thieves get nabbed, and that you get things sorted out with insurance, etc. quickly. *support*

Gah! I never knew the squirrels were so organized! I ph34r, truly. O.O;

On a serious note, major sympathies on the tires. >.> I had a Saturn before my Toyota, and loved her. In the vein of weird cheap shit stolen, someone lifted the hood ornament while I was parked at college one day. Because you know. Saturn hood ornaments are the BIG BLING baby.
