With a cast like Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Andy Serkis, and Toby Jones, and stunning animation, The Adventures of Tintin shouldn't be this damn dull.

To be fair, "Alcoholism is funny" is in about 60-80% of the Tintin books. IDK about the rest of it though.

Yeah, I knew it was a product of its time. I just didn't think that they'd keep it in and make it a major part of the plot!

I confess, more than once I've looked at a 'modern update' and said to myself, "wait, THAT'S what they chose to keep?"

Yup. They spent basically no time on characterization, really, as if the movie were made for people who already knew the characters and their history and not for people who'd never heard of Tintin. (I knew of Tintin's existence, and I think read some when I was in Africa, but I was five at the time, so didn't really understand it!)
