Hello my name is POSSUM and I am TINY and WEE.

One of my coworkers is the head of the campus' trap-neuter-release program for feral cats. She also fosters kittens found on campus. They had a setup outside the library for a couple of hours today to get awareness for the program, and had three tiny ambassadors who had been found in the construction zone recently. I dropped by her office for a few minutes.

My mother flew up for Thanksgiving, and last night [livejournal.com profile] myrialux and I bundled her back on the plane for her flight home. Once we got home, Sora was FINALLY able to relax, inasmuch as he ever relaxes, after THREE WHOLE DAYS spent with this STRANGER IN THE HOUSE. He spent the vast majority of the time holed up in the Catcave, which is what we call the cat furniture that's set up in my office. He'd occasionally come out, if I was there and Mom was speaking quietly and not looking at him, and sneak around us in a circuit, then rush back to the safety of the Catcave.

By the third day, he'd worked up enough bravery to stay by Mom long enough for her to briefly touch him, and to hole up under the A/V rack and stare at her from a distance, but he would still like everyone to know that it was TERRIBLE and SCARY and HORRIBLE.

When we came back from the airport, after dinner I went back to the office to play some games of Bejeweled Blitz, and Sora came out, climbed on top of me, and fell asleep. For THIRTY MINUTES. He never stays asleep on me that long! I think that he'd been so keyed up for three days because of the OBVIOUS CAT-GETTER that my mother is that once all the tension was released, he was exhausted. :)

On the bright side, he may now realize that [livejournal.com profile] myrialux isn't so bad. We caught him a few times sitting on the towel [livejournal.com profile] myrialux placed behind his computer monitor and seasoned with a hint of catnip, staring at Mom, so perhaps he will spend some more time there now. :)

Nefer, on the other hand, viewed the whole experience with equanimity. Her opinion is that a visitor simply means someone else to scritch her.

Heee!

I uploaded the picture of Sora in the desk lamp's light in the previous post to icanhascheezburger to caption it with "sunlamp...i haz one", and when it asked if I wanted to let others caption it or to keep it private, I said what the hell and let people do it.

You can see the results here. XD

This is where Sora thinks he should be when I am at the computer.

We thought we had a fairly serious behavioral problem this morning when we found two suspicious wet spots on the arm of one of the overstuffed microfiber chairs in the living room. And evidence pointed to the youngest member of the family, namely one Sora, as none of the rest of us had a habit of marking the furniture. Although the spots were oddly odor-free, which was a mystery to ponder upon.

And then later this afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] myrialux heard a strange rasping noise, cautiously looked around, and discovered the nefarious evil-doer in the act ... Sora was indeed the culprit and he was caught red-handed!

Or, rather, red-tongued, as it turns out he was producing the wet spots by licking the chair, rather than anything more unsavory. Questions as to why he was licking the chair produced nothing but strong demands to be put down, as being held in someone's arms was far beyond the dignity of such a magnificent feline who had urgent business elsewhere chasing dust motes.

I don't think I told any of you about the Evil Bag of Evil. I even posted the photo and asked y'all to remind me and nobody did! :P

Anyway. This is the Evil Bag of Evil...

...is that there is a (admittedly rather large) kitten sleeping on the desk next to me.

The worst part of working form home is that periodically he stands in front of the monitor and tries to get me to cuddle him, which I can't do and do work at the same time. :) (Luckily, he tends to spend the afternoon sleeping so I should be able to be uninterrupted for a while.)

Sora is a real scaredy-cat and the slightest thing freaks him out. Tonight, it's the secondary litterbox. As in, I decided it was way past time I actually washed it*, did so, and it's now sitting propped up against the edge of the tub, drying. OMG THIS IS WEIRD. SO, SO WEIRD. This is so incredibly weird that Sora cannot enter the bathroom, despite trying several times, and is now curled up at my feet, staring at the door to the bathroom.

I suspect he may spend the first day or two at the new house shut up in one room, so as to keep him from hiding in someplace where he might get hurt. If he gets too freaked out, I might do what Mom did - her vet gave her some kitty tranquilizers, which she gave to her cat (half-doses), so she spent the first week or so in the new house pleasantly stoned.

* I almost never do that. I just scoop and refill, and when it gets dirty enough, change out the litter.
