...so I keep trying to do work today, but I'm currently on hold waiting for a process to finish before I can continue with what I'm currently doing. But this is good! Because it means I read [personal profile] torachan's journal and discovered SOMETHING AWESOME.

You remember the Awesometastic Manga of Awesomeness? The manga all about this guy who travels Japan on a train with the purpose of eating ekiben, the special bento you can buy at train stations? You don't remember? Click the link and read up from the bottom in chronological order for the full effect; I'll wait.

Anyway ... you can get it in English now. It's a digital version, available at JManga.com, titled Ekiben Hitoritabi. Go, thou, and purchase! (We've got enough enjoyment out of just the scans I put up over the years that I think it's only fair that I, and whoever else feels this way, buy a copy to let them know that YES! there is a market for this manga here! I see so many hits on those images in my stats that I know they're linked hither and yon across the intartubes, hopefully at least a few of the people seeing them will go buy!)

ETA: apparently you can only access it in North America, alas for those of you not in NA. :(

BREAKING NEWS!! As of August 2011, YOU CAN BUY THIS MANGA IN ENGLISH (although only in North America, alas!)! It's a digital version at JManga. We've gotten plenty of enjoyment from these few scans over the past 3 years, so please consider letting JManga know that there's a market for this manga in English by buying it. Thank you!

As I'm sure you all remember, a couple of weeks back, I posted about the awesometastic manga of awesomeness that I'd mailed to [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, which turned out to be a manga about ekiben otaku.

Ekiben = specialty bento you can get at train stations
Otaku = crazed fans

[livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija hoped for scans, and now I finally have them.

So, guys: AWESOMETASTIC MANGA OF AWESOMENESS or what?
telophase: (Gin grins)
[livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija has received and reported on the awesometastic manga of awesomeness that I mailed her!

She says "It is the geekiest and most specialized and most awesome thing ever. It is a manga about ..." Go read her report. I'll wait. (especially because I'm not going to summarize it, as she's done that nicely.)

(P.S. I have purchased volume 2 of Hikkatsu! Strike a Blow to Vivify. Report on it when I've finished reading it.)

Poll!

Here's the poll I threatened, about the AWESOMETASTIC MANGA OF AWESOMENESS. With luck [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija will receive it today, although with the weather between her location and mine, I fear it's more likely to be tomorrow or Monday. I hope tomorrow, at least, as I've got to work the Ref desk on Saturday.

No, I'm not yet telling you what it is, as it's still in the mail to [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija. However, I want to collect guesses so I can make a poll before it's revealed. :D

So feel free to guess away at what this AWESOMETASTIC MANGA OF AWESOMENESS contains/is about/whatever. Hurry! I sent it Priority Mail (because I had a lot of Priority boxes and I can buy the postage online), so it'll only be a day or two before she gets it!

(My coworkers laughed at the sheer WTF?! of it also, when I showed them this morning. XD Gosh, there's a minor clue: I have no problems with showing it around at work. Also: it will never, ever be translated and sold in the US in the history of ever. Possibly nowhere other than Japan.)

Waaaaah!

I have in my hands an AWESOMETASTIC MANGA OF AWESOMENESS that I cannot tell you anything about. Why? Because I have a second copy I'm sending to [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija and I think she should experience it untainted by any expectations whatsoever except for AWESOME.

And no: this isn't something I picked up in the bookstore or anything like that. It's in Japanese, and stands absolutely no chance ever of being translated, ever. Which you will all understand when I, (or maybe she), tells you all about it.

Also in my order from yesasia.com, along with the AWESOMETASTIC MANGA OF AWESOMENESS, I got a book of photographs of bento lunches and the Japanese version of the Okami artbook, since the English version keeps getting pushed off farther and farther and farther. It is also awesome, although, I must say, in a completely different way than the AWESOMETASTIC MANGA OF AWESOMENESS.
