Interesting article using the ASL signer for Mayor Bloomberg's pre-Sandy speech to explain how facial expressions and bodily movements are part of ASL grammar.

i knew that expressions were a part of the language, but i hadn't realized how nuanced it was! obvious in retrospect--super cool!

That was Olympic-level signing she was doing. It was a long press conference with a lot of data and Bloomburg barely taking a breath, which she had to listen to and translate live. My roommate and I were really impressed by her.

Real-time translators always blow my mind. I can't even listen to someone and take notes--how difficult it must be to be able to listen to one language and say it in another at virtually the same instant!
